Analysis of the status quo of polyurethane industry in China

Abstract: Since the reform and opening up, China's polyurethane industry has developed by leaps and bounds through independent innovation. The outhengjiuzibo.com target='_blank'>put of polyurethane in China has increased from 500 tons in 1978 to 10 million tons in 2018. This paper analyzes the development status of polyurethane industry in China from the aspects of development history, market status and production distribution pattern.

China has become a big producer of polyurethane
China's polyurethane industry started in the late 1950s. After half a century of development, through technology introduction, absorption and improvement and independent innovation, China's polyurethane production and downstream market have achieved leapfrog development. The development history is shown in Table 1.

Since the 21st century, the production and sales of polyurethane in China have been growing rapidly and continuously. In 2000, the production of polyurethane in China was about 1 million tons, accounting for about 10% of the global total production. In 2018, China's polyurethane outhengjiuzibo.com target='_blank'>put reached 11.3 million tons, accounting for about 45% of the global total. China has become the world's largest producer of polyurethane.

China will become the main market of the global polyurethane industry
At present, the main application fields of polyurethane in China are polyurethane foam (including hard and soft), polyurethane synthetic leather, coatings and elastomers. Polyurethane foam has become the most important variety of polyurethane materials. In 2017, polyurethane foam, synthetic leather slurry and coatings are the most consumed polyurethane products in China. The proportions were 39.19%, 17.12% and 16.09%, respectively; The proportion of other products such as liquid of spandex, sole, elastomer, adhesive and sealant is all below 10%.

In recent years, the rapid development of national economy, growing, and for building energy saving, furniture, clothing, home appliances and other downstream of the polyurethane industry upgrading of consumption, and increasing car ownership, the state of heat preservation material effective stimulus, have promoted the polyurethane application fields and the size of the market continues to expand, the hengjiuzibo.com target='_blank'>pu consumption showed a trend of sustained growth (see chart 2).

In 2018, the consumption of polyurethane products in China reached 11.3 million tons. At present, the outhengjiuzibo.com target='_blank'>put of downstream polyurethane products such as building materials, spandex, synthetic leather and automobiles ranks first in the world. China is vigorously promoting water-based coatings and implementing new policies on building energy conservation, all of which have brought huge market opportunities for the polyurethane industry. China has become one of the largest polyurethane markets.

China's polyurethane industry is forming a production distribution pattern of six major sectors
At present, polyurethane production regions in China have formed four major distribution patterns: one is the Yangtze River Delta region with Shanghai as the center, and the polyurethane raw materials and products within the region occupy half of the domestic polyurethane market; Second, Guangdong is the center of the Pearl River Delta region, where the foreign trade of polyurethane products is relatively developed; Third, Huludao is the Bohai Rim and Northeast China. The biggest advantage of Huludao is its strong chemical industry foundation and grand industrial planning. There are many varieties of polyurethane products and large outhengjiuzibo.com target='_blank'>put. Fourthly, northwest China, with Lanzhou as the center, is gradually forming an industrial chain of downstream polyurethane products. The distribution is shown in Fig. 4.

In the future, the distribution pattern of polyurethane production regions in China will gradually form six tectonic plates, and two tectonic plates will be added on the basis of the current four tectonic plates. One is the southwest region with Chongqing as the center, which is rich in chemical material resources. The other is Quanzhou as the center of the west coast of the strait area, this area is currently one of the most active polyurethane shoe industry and foreign trade processing areas.

The polyurethane industry in China started late and developed slowly. It developed by leaps and bounds after the reform and opening up. After half a century of unremitting efforts, China has become a major consumer market of polyurethane, a major producer of polyurethane, and the main force of the global polyurethane industry.

China's polyurethane industry started in the late 1950s, and has achieved leapfrog development since half a century, and has become the world's largest producer of polyurethane. At present, polyurethane products in China are mainly polyurethane foam products. The downstream market demand continues to drive the continuous growth of the consumption of polyurethane products, and China will become the largest consumer market for polyurethane in the world. At present, the production distribution pattern of polyurethane industry in China has been formed in Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Bohai Rim, Northeast China and Northwest China. In the future, two regions will be added in Southwest China and the west coast of the Taiwan Strait to form six regional distribution patterns.
